Design Manager
Job Description
We are recruiting on behalf of a large water/utilities consultancy for a Design Manager to strengthen their engineering team based from their Peterborough office with hybrid working available.
\nJoin the award-winning team delivering a £9bn investment programme to safeguard water resources, enhance the environment, and support sustainable growth across the East of England-one of the UK's most water-stressed regions.
\nThe Design Manager will lead the engineering design delivery of a diverse portfolio of water recycling projects across the East region. You'll head up a multi-disciplinary engineering team, driving innovative and sustainable solutions that improve wastewater treatment performance, reduce carbon, and enhance natural capital.
\n You'll champion new ways of working-focusing on outcomes over outputs-while embracing digital technologies and continuous improvement.
\n As part of the role you will:
\n - Lead design delivery across a portfolio of water recycling and wastewater projects
\n - Develop and manage Engineering Project Plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk and resources
\n - Direct multi-disciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, civil) to deliver high-quality design solutions
\n - Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to integrate designs effectively
\n - Drive affordability, value and low-carbon, environmentally sustainable solutions
\n - Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and lead a strong health & safety culture
\n - Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team
\n - Support innovation, standardisation and the use of digital engineering (including 3D modelling)
\n - Work closely with wider alliance functions (delivery, procurement, construction) to achieve project outcomes
\n About The Candidate:
\n Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
\n Chartered, or working towards Chartered status
\n Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering design for capital projects
\n Strong understanding of CDM regulations and design responsibilities
\n Experience within the water sector or infrastructure projects
\n Skilled in managing risk, programme delivery and project affordability
\n Strong leadership, collaboration and decision-making skills
\n Passion for sustainability, innovation and continuous improvement
