BMS / HVAC Technical Engineer (Training into Estimating) | Leeds Office | Full Time | £50,000£60,000 per annum, depending on experience
\nOur client is a Leeds-based specialist in control panel design, manufacturing, and building management systems, with over 25 years of industry experience. They provide a complete end-to-end service, including system design, in-house panel manufacturing, engineering, installation, and ongoing maintenance across commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and public sector projects.
\nWith a strong reputation for delivering high-quality bespoke control solutions, they work with a wide range of clients on technically interesting projects, from new-build developments through to complex refurbishment and upgrade works.
\nTheir projects typically include a 75/25 split of new works to rework, covering sectors such as schools, student accommodation, office developments, manufacturing facilities, and commercial buildings, with project values ranging from £10k to £500k.
\nThe Role
\nDue to continued growth, our client is looking for a technically minded individual with experience within BMS, HVAC, MEP, building services, or controls who is interested in developing their career within the commercial side of the business.
\nThis is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands building services and enjoys analysing technical information, problem-solving, and working with customers, but who would like to move into a more commercially focused position.
\nYou do not need previous estimating experience. Full support and training will be provided to develop your estimating skills.
\nThe successful candidate will work closely with the Business Development Director and wider engineering teams to understand project requirements, review specifications, prepare quotations, and develop accurate tender submissions.
\nOver time, you will become a key part of the estimating function, helping to manage tenders, support business growth, and ensure projects are commercially and technically aligned.
\nThis role will predominantly be office based at LS12, with some flexibility for occasional home working.
\nThe business primarily works with Trend and Tridium BMS platforms, so experience with BMS controls, HVAC systems, or building services would be highly advantageous.
\nKey Responsibilities

- Review customer enquiries, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation to understand project requirements \n
- Work alongside the Business Development Director to prepare accurate and competitive quotations and tender submissions \n
- Develop an understanding of BMS project costing, including equipment, labour, materials, and subcontractor requirements \n
- Support the preparation of tender documentation and ensure submissions meet client requirements \n
- Liaise with suppliers and internal engineering teams to gather technical and commercial information \n
- Build strong relationships with customers and support technical discussions throughout the tender process \n
- Assist with sales handovers to the delivery team following successful project awards \n
- Maintain accurate records of quotations, costs, and tender information \n
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and internal procedures \n
- Develop knowledge of ISO9001 quality procedures and company standards \n
What Were Looking For
\n- \n
- Previous experience working within BMS, HVAC, MEP, mechanical building services, controls, or a related engineering environment \n
- Strong technical understanding of building services systems and how they operate \n
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project information \n
- A genuine interest in developing commercial and estimating skills \n
- Good analytical ability with strong attention to detail \n
- Confident communication skills with the ability to liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teams \n
- Organised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines \n
Previous estimating experience is desirable but not essential technical knowledge and the right attitude are key.
