Java Developer Newcastle Hybrid (3 days onsite)£40,000 £55,000 + BonusWere supporting a leading technology consultancy looking for a Backend Java Software Engineer to join their growing engineering team, delivering secure, scalable solutions across major public sector and enterprise programmes.This is a hands-on development role ideal for someone with strong Java experience who enjoys building high-quality software within complex, regulated environments.What youll be working on: Designing and developing Java-based services using JDK 11+ and Spring BootBuilding scalable, maintainable microservices aligned with enterprise standardsDeveloping modern APIs and supporting cloud-based solutionsWorking with CI/CD tooling including GitLab, Jenkins, and SonarQubeCollaborating with cloud and infrastructure teams to deploy secure applicationsApplying engineering best practices including TDD/BDD, code quality, and effective branching strategiesWorking within Agile teams alongside developers, testers, and technical leadsWhat theyre looking for: Essential:2+ years commercial experience as a Java DeveloperStrong experience with Java (JDK 11+) and Spring BootUnderstanding of microservices architecture and modern API developmentExposure to cloud platforms, ideally AWSKnowledge of secure software development and DevOps practicesExperience working within Agile engineering teamsMust be SC clearable (minimum 5 years continuous UK residency)Desirable:Experience with Docker and KubernetesFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation toolingThe Package: £40,000 £55,000 base salaryBonus schemePrivate medical coverPension contributionCareer development opportunitiesTPBN1_UKTJ
