The Opportunity

\n

My client is looking for an experienced and proactive Property & Facilities Manager to take responsibility for the maintenance, improvement, and compliance of the Town Council's property portfolio, including a number of historic and Listed buildings.

\n

This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll lead maintenance and grounds teams, manage property-related projects, oversee contractors, and ensure our buildings and public spaces remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained for the community.

\n

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all Town Council-owned properties, buildings, and surrounding grounds.
  • \n
  • Develop and deliver planned maintenance programmes and respond promptly to property issues.
  • \n
  • Lead and develop the maintenance and caretaking team.
  • \n
  • Oversee the Grounds Team through the management of the Head Gardener.
  • \n
  • Manage property improvement and maintenance projects from planning through to completion.
  • \n
  • Coordinate and monitor the performance of contractors and suppliers.
  • \n
  • Prepare specifications and maintain an approved contractor database.
  • \n
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • \n
  • Carry out and maintain risk assessments, including fire safety assessments.
  • \n
  • Manage licences and leases relating to Council properties.
  • \n
  • Work with senior officers on maintenance budgets and future asset planning.
  • \n
  • Attend occasional evening committee meetings to present property and maintenance updates.
  • \n

About You

We're looking for someone who can combine practical property knowledge with strong leadership and organisational skills.

Essential Skills & Experience

\n

  • Experience in property, facilities, estates, or maintenance management.
  • \n
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance and statutory compliance requirements.
  • \n
  • Understanding of Listed and historic buildings.
  • \n
  • Experience managing projects, contractors, and budgets.
  • \n
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • \n
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • \n
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • \n
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • \n
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • \n
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • \n
