BMS / HVAC Technical Engineer (Training into Estimating) | Leeds Office | Full Time | £50,000£60,000 per annum, depending on experienceOur client is a Leeds-based specialist in control panel design, manufacturing, and building management systems, with over 25 years of industry experience. They provide a complete end-to-end service, including system design, in-house panel manufacturing, engineering, installation, and ongoing maintenance across commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and public sector projects.With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality bespoke control solutions, they work with a wide range of clients on technically interesting projects, from new-build developments through to complex refurbishment and upgrade works.Their projects typically include a 75/25 split of new works to rework, covering sectors such as schools, student accommodation, office developments, manufacturing facilities, and commercial buildings, with project values ranging from £10k to £500k.The RoleDue to continued growth, our client is looking for a technically minded individual with experience within BMS, HVAC, MEP, building services, or controls who is interested in developing their career within the commercial side of the business.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands building services and enjoys analysing technical information, problem-solving, and working with customers, but who would like to move into a more commercially focused position.You do not need previous estimating experience. Full support and training will be provided to develop your estimating skills.The successful candidate will work closely with the Business Development Director and wider engineering teams to understand project requirements, review specifications, prepare quotations, and develop accurate tender submissions.Over time, you will become a key part of the estimating function, helping to manage tenders, support business growth, and ensure projects are commercially and technically aligned.This role will predominantly be office based at LS12, with some flexibility for occasional home working.The business primarily works with Trend and Tridium BMS platforms, so experience with BMS controls, HVAC systems, or building services would be highly advantageous.Key ResponsibilitiesReview customer enquiries, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation to understand project requirementsWork alongside the Business Development Director to prepare accurate and competitive quotations and tender submissionsDevelop an understanding of BMS project costing, including equipment, labour, materials, and subcontractor requirementsSupport the preparation of tender documentation and ensure submissions meet client requirementsLiaise with suppliers and internal engineering teams to gather technical and commercial informationBuild strong relationships with customers and support technical discussions throughout the tender processAssist with sales handovers to the delivery team following successful project awardsMaintain accurate records of quotations, costs, and tender informationSupport continuous improvement of estimating processes and internal proceduresDevelop knowledge of ISO9001 quality procedures and company standardsWhat Were Looking ForPrevious experience working within BMS, HVAC, MEP, mechanical building services, controls, or a related engineering environmentStrong technical understanding of building services systems and how they operateAbility to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project informationA genuine interest in developing commercial and estimating skillsGood analytical ability with strong attention to detailConfident communication skills with the ability to liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teamsOrganised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesPrevious estimating experience is desirable but not essential technical knowledge and the right attitude are key.Ideal Backgrounds Could Include:BMS Engineer looking to move away from site-based workHVAC Engineer or Design EngineerM&E / MEP EngineerBuilding Services EngineerControls EngineerApplications EngineerTechnical Engineer within the HVAC or automation sectorWhats In It For You£50,000£60,000 salary depending on experience25 days holiday + Bank Holidays (plus Christmas shutdown)Private medical coverFull training and development into estimating and commercial managementOpportunity to join a growing business at an exciting stage of expansionWork with technically challenging BMS and controls projects across multiple sectorsDevelop a career pathway from technical engineering into a commercial roleExposure to projects ranging from £10k£500kOpportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of the estimating functionFlexibility with occasional home working (non-contractual)Whats next?
