Schedule / Pay:
AM 6:15am-6:30pm $21/hr
PM 6:15pm-6:30am $22.25/hr
Please note: This position follows a 4/3 schedule. The 4-day workweek includes Saturday and Sunday, meaning employees will work every other weekend.
Job Summary
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and general-purpose machining equipment to support high-precision manufacturing operations. This role contributes to efficient production workflows, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and adherence to quality standards. The machinist will work with small, machined components, complex machining programs, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, timely output.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, set up, and operate CNC machines (VMC, HMC, turning centers, CNC surface grinders) and general-purpose machines such as mills, drills, and grinders.
- Generate and edit CNC programs (2D and 3D) using Mastercam; perform manual CNC programming when required.
- Work with small machined parts (up to 150 grams) and ensure dimensional accuracy through precision measurement.
- Troubleshoot machining and secondary process issues to maintain productivity and quality.
- Coordinate with departments such as Sintering, ISP, Machine Shop Engineering, and Quality to support production schedules.
- Implement and sustain SPC practices to improve process capability.
- Apply principles of TPM, poke yoke, kaizen, lean manufacturing, and GD&T in daily operations.
- Support new product development by planning machines, tools, fixtures, and inspection methods.
- Use automated vision systems and optical metrology equipment for dimensional inspection.
- Maintain and manage documents related to TS 16949, ISO 9001, and other applicable quality systems.
- Follow all organizational safety rules, procedures, and 5S standards to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Required Experience
- 1–3 years of experience as a CNC Machinist or equivalent, or an associate degree/certificate in CNC machining.
- Experience operating general-purpose, special-purpose, and CNC machinery.
- Experience generating or modifying CNC programs (manual or Mastercam-based).
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Background in machining small, high-precision components.
- Experience with SPC, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement tools.
- Experience with jigs, fixtures, gauge design, GD&T, or quality inspection practices.
Required Skills (Top 3 Must-Have)
- Proficiency in operating and setting up CNC and general-purpose machining equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- CNC programming skills (manual and/or Mastercam).
Preferred Skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and process issues.
- Familiarity with automated vision systems and metrology equipment.
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
