Field Service Controls Engineer
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
Design and build complete automation control systems from scratch.
Develop custom programs for PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs across multiple automation platforms.
Diagnose and resolve complex automation and controls issues that require advanced troubleshooting.
Provide remote technical support to field technicians to assist with system troubleshooting and repairs.
Travel to customer sites to support field technicians and resolve escalated technical issues when needed.
Design automation systems and develop technical solutions while working independently from home between projects.
Research automation hardware and evaluate components for system applications.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to automation systems and projects.
Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on automation controls experience, with real, from-scratch programs.
Proficiency (or the ability to quickly get there) across major platforms: RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk Studio, TIA Portal, DirectSoft, and others.
Strong troubleshooting skills with a DMM, laptop, and advanced test equipment.
Strong reading comprehension, with the ability to program an unfamiliar device using the manual alone.
Willingness to travel to customer sites on short notice and respond after hours for true emergencies.
A high level of personal integrity and the self-discipline to work without supervision.
