Estimator
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to lead the takeoff and bidding process for general HVAC and piping scopes. This role plays a critical part in the preconstruction process-from reviewing bid documents to delivering accurate, competitive proposals that support successful project awards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for general HVAC and piping systems from plans and specifications.
Prepare complete and accurate bid packages, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
Review project drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify the full project scope.
Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and vendor quotes.
Coordinate with project management and field teams to ensure estimates reflect current labor rates and productivity standards.
Maintain organized bid files and historical cost data for future reference.
Participate in scope review meetings and pre-bid walkthroughs as required.
Support value engineering, design/build efforts, and alternate pricing requests.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience performing general HVAC and piping takeoffs with a mechanical contractor.
Demonstrated proficiency in HVAC and piping system takeoffs.
Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods, materials, and installation practices.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications.
Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements, union labor agreements, and the local subcontractor market.
Experience estimating large commercial, institutional, or high-rise construction projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software.
