Technical Design Manager Electrical

Nimble Recruitment
Corsham, ENG, GB Full Time

Job Description

You may already be working on good projects, earning well and reasonably settled where you are. However, if the opportunity to work on major data centre schemes, gain greater technical influence and become a key part of a growing contractor would make you curious, this role is worth exploring. The Client Our client is an established specialist contractor delivering complex building services projects, with a growing presence across the data centre and mission-critical sectors. The business has secured a strong pipeline of technically challenging work and is continuing to invest in the senior technical capability needed to support its growth. This is not a contractor chasing volume for the sake of it. The focus is on delivering complex projects properly, building long-term client relationships and maintaining a strong reputation for technical quality. You will be joining an experienced team where technical expertise is respected and where the right person will have genuine visibility across the wider business. The Role The Electrical Technical Manager will take ownership of the electrical technical and design process across multiple projects, working closely with the Technical Director, pre-construction teams, project delivery teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.Your involvement will cover the full project lifecycle, including:Reviewing project specifications, tender information and client requirementsIdentifying technical risks, scope gaps and value-engineering opportunitiesLeading and coordinating internal and external electrical designsReviewing consultant and subcontractor design proposalsProducing and approving calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reportsEnsuring compliance with UK regulations, contractual requirements and current legislationSupporting projects through pre-construction, detailed design, installation and commissioningResolving complex technical queries before they affect cost or programmeMaintaining design intent throughout project development and changeSupporting technical sign-off, handover information and O&M documentationCoordinating electrical designs with mechanical, architectural and construction teamsThe role will cover systems including LV and MV distribution, lighting, small power, fire alarms, security, CCTV, earthing and lightning protection. You will not necessarily be expected to sit behind a screen producing every drawing yourself. However, you must be technically credible, capable of reviewing complex information and confident enough to challenge a design when something does not look right. What Makes It Special The data centre market is continuing to create opportunities for engineers who want to work on larger, more technically demanding projects. However, the real attraction here is the level of influence. This is not a Technical Manager position where you inherit a title but have little authority. You will be involved early enough to shape the design, challenge risk and prevent problems rather than simply being asked to resolve them once construction has started. The role offers:Exposure to complex data centre and mission-critical projectsGenuine ownership of technical decision-makingInvolvement from initial tender review through to final handoverDirect access to senior leadershipA mixture of design, coordination, commercial awareness and deliveryThe opportunity to improve technical standards and internal processesA visible position within a growing businessLong-term progression within the technical leadership teamThis could suit an experienced Electrical Design Manager, Technical Manager, Principal Electrical Engineer or senior electrical building services professional who wants broader influence without moving away from engineering.Previous data centre experience would be attractive, but strong experience delivering complex electrical building services projects may be equally relevant. What We Are Looking For You will need a strong background in electrical building services and proven experience managing technical or design responsibilities across live construction projects. You should be comfortable working across both pre-construction and project delivery, with a good understanding of:Electrical building services design and coordinationDesign and build contractsUK Building Regulations and statutory complianceCDM, design risk management and safety in designTechnical specifications and construction informationConsultant and subcontractor design managementBuildability, value engineering and change controlBIM and coordinated design environmentsExperience using or reviewing information produced through Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Amtech, ElectricalOM, Dialux or Relux would be useful. Most importantly, you must be able to communicate confidently with clients, consultants, subcontractors and project teams while remaining prepared to challenge decisions when necessary. The Package The package is expected to include:Salary around £90,000, dependent on experienceCar allowance or company carPension and wider company benefitsSupport towards professional development and chartershipLong-term progression within the technical leadership teamThere may be some flexibility for an individual who brings particularly strong data centre, mission-critical or complex project experience. What to Do if Youre Interested You do not need to have decided to leave your current employer. An initial conversation can be completely informal and confidential, allowing you to understand the business, its project pipeline and what the role could offer before deciding whether it is worth taking any further. For a confidential discussion, click apply now below!TPBN1_UKTJ
