Occupational Therapist (OT) / Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

School-Based Opportunity | New Mexico

Are you passionate about helping students develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom? We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join a supportive school-based team in New Mexico for the upcoming school year.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting students with diverse needs while collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Assess student needs and develop appropriate treatment plans and goals (OTs)
  • Implement therapy interventions focused on fine motor skills, sensory integration, self-care skills, motor planning, and classroom participation
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and service logs
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers
  • Monitor student progress and recommend modifications to support academic and functional success
  • Ensure compliance with state, district, and federal regulations

Qualifications – Occupational Therapist (OT)

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Current New Mexico Occupational Therapist License in good standing (or ability to obtain)
  • NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist (OTR)
  • Eligible to work in a school-based setting
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Previous pediatric or school-based experience preferred but not required

Qualifications – Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current New Mexico Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant License in good standing (or ability to obtain)
  • Current NBCOT certification as a COTA
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Previous pediatric or school-based experience preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to pass all required background checks and fingerprint clearances
  • Compliance with all New Mexico school district hiring requirements
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if required by assignment)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and related regulations
