Job Description
Our organization is a multi-specialty group practice with over 650 providers, presenting an exceptional opportunity for a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Obstetrician to become part of a well-established OB hospitalist team consisting of five physicians. This program, which has been operational since 2009, is the first of its kind in Idaho. The available schedules are as follows: full-time (1.0 FTE): 154 twelve-hour shifts annually or part-time (0.5 FTE): 77 twelve-hour shifts per year. There is no on-call duty required.
The OB Hospitalist physicians at our organization act as patient safety coordinators in Labor and Delivery, collaborating with Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, OB/GYN doctors, Family Medicine practitioners, and Certified Nurse Midwives to provide comprehensive 24/7 care at the Family Maternity Center, which sees over 1,400 deliveries each year and maintains a low cesarean rate of 21% for first-time mothers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the antepartum service and function as MFM extenders.
- Triage incoming pregnant patients.
- Address obstetric emergencies, including trauma cases.
- Consult with Certified Nurse Midwives and Family Medicine physicians.
- Assist in surgeries and provide backup for OB/GYN physicians.
- Manage labor and deliveries for patients without an assigned provider or when their providers are unavailable.
- No on-call, office, or GYN duties required!
Maternity Services Overview: Our facility serves as a regional referral center, featuring two Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, 24-hour in-house anesthesia support, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, on-site gynecologic oncology, interventional radiology, pediatric surgery, and pediatric gastroenterology. Additionally, we are proud to be the only ACS verified Level II Trauma Center in the region. The OB hospitalists also have the unique opportunity to care for women involved in the community through the Refugee Resettlement program.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists deliver comprehensive obstetric care, dedicated to supporting patients and their families during complex pregnancies while ensuring high-quality perinatal services. They collaborate with primary obstetricians, hospitalists, and neonatologists as necessary to provide optimal care. Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine department has received special recognition and accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), highlighting our commitment to excellence in diagnostic ultrasound services.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Our NICU offers the highest level of care for infants, providing 24-hour, full-service specialty treatment. This allows families from Boise and surrounding areas in Idaho and eastern Oregon to access expert care close to home. The NICU employs a team approach, fostering collaboration between parents and staff to achieve outcomes that surpass national standards. Special programs developed by our neonatologists and NICU team have resulted in significantly lower length-of-stay and complication rates compared to national averages.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
- Successful completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency.
- Certification by the ABOG or the ability to obtain such certification within three years of employment.
- Possession of an Idaho medical license and privileges at SARMC - Boise.
- Preferred qualities include teamwork, leadership, adherence to protocols, and strong surgical and OB sonography skills.
