Position Overview

The Surgical Technologist (ST) Educator is a Certified Surgical Technologist dedicated to enhancing staff skills and fostering professional development within Perioperative Services. This position involves providing initial and ongoing education, which includes new hire orientation, skills training, and continuing education programs. The ST Educator works closely with the Perioperative Nursing Professional Development (NPD) team and perioperative leadership to assess educational needs and create comprehensive training initiatives. Key duties encompass:

  • Developing training materials
  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory education standards
  • Facilitating competency-based training programs
  • Assessing new employee skills
  • Communicating updates in practice
  • Coordinating in-service training sessions
  • Collaborating with local ST programs to support student clinical rotations

As a member of the Perioperative Leadership Team, the ST Educator plays a crucial role in promoting professional growth and excellence in perioperative practices.


Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Associate’s degree; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program

Professional Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years in any combination of the following:

  • Role as a Surgical Technologist
  • Operating room scrub/preceptor role
  • Instructor in surgical technology

Licensure and Certification

  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or NCCT
