The Red River Waterway Commission, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, is currently accepting applications for a Park Attendant for the 1North Adventure Trails located in Blanchard, LA. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with the possibility of future increases. JOB SUMMARY:
The primary function of the Park Attendant is to perform manual labor tasks required to maintain the 1North Adventure Trails. Duties include general operation, maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, trails, and equipment at 1North and, if directed, throughout the Red River Waterway District.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

• Inspect singletrack and multi-use trails on regular basis and/or after high winds or other severe weather events either by walking or riding trails
• Assess trail conditions and determine necessary tools, equipment, and resources required for maintenance tasks
• Clear limbs, pine straw, leaves, and other debris from trail using blower or other means
• Maintain existing drainage features, install new drainage features as necessary, and repair areas of erosion
• Maintain and/or repair trail surface to keep original shape, including but not limited to filling in ruts, packing loose dirt, bringing in new material, etc.
• Maintain bridges, berms, jumps, crossings, etc., to ensure structural integrity and safety
• Install and maintain trail signage to ensure directional signs, warning signs, and trail rating markers are visible, legible, and properly mounted
• Clear downed trees, clear brush, and trim limbs and encroaching foliage to maintain clear trail corridor
• Manage and/or clear grass and weeds using weed eater and/or herbicides
• Utilize hand tools, chainsaws, blowers, weed eaters, and other equipment to perform maintenance tasks efficiently and safely
• Communicate and coordinate with maintenance staff on trail conditions, maintenance issues, etc.
• Follow all safety protocols to ensure personal safety and the safety of others
• Make minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities and maintain equipment employing basic skills in the plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical and related fields
• Perform basic road and parking lot maintenance by clearing drains, spreading road surface material, filling potholes, placement of signs, repairing fences, painting traffic control lines, removing trees and limbs, etc.
• Mow, trim grass, perform landscaping duties, clean silt and debris from boat ramps, empty garbage cans, remove limbs, debris, and garbage from parks and parking lots, etc.
• Repair, clean, and maintain restroom facilities, pavilions and other park improvements
• Operate RRWC vehicle to travel to various recreation areas and facilities
• Patrol and inspect facilities and interact with the public as necessary
• Work occasional weekends or evenings to accommodate project needs
• Perform other duties within the O & M Department as directed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including frequent heavy lifting (including lifting of up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, and occasional group lifting in excess of 100 pounds), hiking/biking long distances, and working in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to read and interpret trail maps and work plans
• Ability to assess trail conditions and determine appropriate maintenance or repair methods
• Ability to perform basic operation and maintenance duties and operate standard maintenance equipment in a safe manner
• Ability to understand and follow instructions
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and to operate in groups or teams when necessary
• Ability to interact with the public
• Ability to operate without direct oversight when necessary
• Possession of, or ability to learn, basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical skills

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

• High school diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least one year experience or training in the building
  construction trade, general building maintenance, repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment, law enforcement or recreation development
• Previous experience in trail maintenance, landscaping, construction, or a related field is preferred
• Knowledge of trail construction and maintenance techniques is preferred
• Experience operating a tractor with bushhog, skid steer, mini excavator, etc., is preferred
• Louisiana drivers license with good driving record
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
