Job Description
The Associate Medical Director (AMD) plays a vital role as a clinical leader within our primary care team, merging clinical practice with leadership and operational oversight to guarantee exceptional patient care while adhering to Value-Based Care (VBC) principles. This position is tailored to specific markets or centers, requiring adaptability in responsibilities and a unique combination of clinical management, financial insight, and strategic collaboration to enhance patient care and business results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Organizational Management:- Analyze organizational and market priorities, trends, and objectives to formulate a clinical strategy that enhances talent and performance.
- Recruit, hire, and oversee clinical teams to cultivate a high-quality workforce that emphasizes patient-first culture and talent retention.
- Engage closely with clinicians and care teams through weekly onsite visits, regular one-on-one meetings, and active participation in monthly leadership discussions.
- Support and enhance primary care clinician performance by understanding individual and team contexts, utilizing data effectively, and providing impactful coaching.
- Participate in regular market performance meetings focusing on clinical, financial, and operational topics such as Medical Risk Adjustment (MRA), budgeting, staffing, and clinical initiatives.
- Advocate for our senior-focused primary care strategic vision and initiatives while building relationships with stakeholders, including health plan partners and social services, to enhance community care.
- Represent our organization in local communities and media engagements while collaborating with recruitment to establish a network of high-quality primary care clinicians.
- Leverage clinical performance dashboards and data tools for performance analysis and strategic development.
- Encourage a culture of continuous learning and professional development among clinical teams.
Clinical/Patient Management:
- Promote a strong patient-centered and value-based clinical vision that aligns care teams around excellence in patient care and outcomes.
- Achieve outstanding clinical performance in patient experience, quality of care, and clinical outcomes while minimizing avoidable utilization.
- Regularly review clinician charts to pinpoint care opportunities, ensuring accurate clinical assessments and effective performance improvement initiatives.
- Identify critical issues for high-risk patients during case reviews and other discussions, driving clinical excellence.
- Conduct root cause analyses of care opportunities from individual, team, and systemic perspectives, collaborating with clinical and operational colleagues to enhance care reliability.
- Ensure clinicians effectively co-manage high-risk care episodes with resources from the Care Integration Team (CIT) for transitions of care management and social determinants of health initiatives.
- Oversee daily patient care and initiatives aimed at improving team-based key performance indicators (KPIs), such as patient experience and Medicare clinical quality.
- Deliver high-quality primary care personally, demonstrating ownership and excellence in age-friendly senior primary care, including health promotion and complex care management.
- Allocate 20–50% of time to direct patient care, with the remainder dedicated to administrative tasks, adjusting based on market needs and staffing levels.
- Support clinical quality performance improvements in areas like MRA and Stars through provider education and coaching.
- Encourage team-based care delivery and foster collaboration across interdisciplinary teams.
Dyad Partnership:
- Collaborate with operational leaders and Shared Services partners to align clinical and operational objectives, strategic planning, and budgeting.
- Maintain consistent communication to ensure alignment on performance, strategies, and team management, promoting unified decision-making.
- Work collaboratively towards shared goals that enhance the mission, vision, values, and overall patient experience outcomes.
- Partner on strategic and operational insights, including budgeting, while monitoring clinical and financial performance metrics.
- Review clinician schedules and incentive plans to ensure alignment with patient care access and management objectives.
Utilize Your Skills to Make a Difference
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited medical school (MD/DO) with a valid medical license, adhering to state licensure requirements.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine.
- A minimum of five years of experience in outpatient practice, with a focus on primary care, senior health, and value-based care.
- At least three years of experience in a leadership role, successfully guiding clinicians and demonstrating a positive impact on talent, culture, and performance.
- Proficient in clinical technology platforms, including EMR systems and clinical evidence resources.
- This position involves patient interaction and is part of the Tuberculosis (TB) screening program; selected candidates will need to undergo TB screening.
- Selected candidates must comply with the flu vaccine policy.

Compensation Range
The salary range provided reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. Actual pay may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications, including skills, experience, education, and certifications.
$310,000 - $368,500 per year
This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on individual and/or company performance.
