Part Time Fire Alarm TesterLocation : Kingston, KT1 2EESalary : £17,131.30 per annum (pay review August 2026)Contract : Part Time, Permanent (22.2 hours per week)Working Pattern : 3 days per week - Tuesday, Wednesday, plus 1 flexible dayJoin a Role That Plays a Vital Part in Site SafetyKUSCO (Kingston University Service Company Ltd) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kingston University, providing facilities management services across the University estate.We are now looking for a reliable, self-motivated Fire Alarm Tester to join our Estates and Asset Department.This is a crucial role responsible for ensuring fire safety systems across multiple University sites are tested, maintained and compliant, helping to keep staff, students and visitors safe every day.About the Fire Alarm Tester RoleWorking across four campus sites, halls of residence and additional buildings within the local area, you will carry out a structured programme of fire safety testing and checks.You'll be responsible for testing over 50 fire alarm systems weekly, along with other fire protection systems, and completing routine fire door inspections.This is a practical, site-based role that requires attention to detail, good organisation, and the ability to work independently.What You'll Be DoingCarrying out weekly fire alarm testing across all University buildings in line with British Standard 5839-1 and internal proceduresCompleting 6-monthly fire door inspections in line with set schedulesRecording all testing, checks and observations accurately in fire safety logbooks and electronic systems (e.g. Nimbus)Reporting faults, defects or issues immediately via mobile systems or the FM HelpdeskMonitoring fire safety risks (e.g. blocked exits, combustible materials), recording and reporting findingsCoordinating activities with fire wardens, security, maintenance teams and contractorsSupporting fire drills, panel activations, fire risk assessments and auditsAssisting with fire marshal training when requiredContributing to ongoing fire safety improvements across the estateTesting and checking associated systems including:Smoke ventilation systemsFire curtainsRefuge call pointsAutomatic door closers and door release mechanismsIn order to be successful in this role you must have:Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed)Strong timekeeping and ability to follow structured schedulesAble to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervisionExcellent attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accuratelyGood communication skills (written and verbal)Strong record-keeping and administrative abilityBasic understanding of Health & Safety requirementsBasic IT skills and confidence using mobile devices / tabletsGood level of physical fitness (role involves being on your feet most of the day)It would be great if you had:Experience with fire alarm systems or similar technical systemsKnowledge of fire safety procedures, British Standards or electrical systemsExperience using Nimbus or similar electronic log systemsPrevious fire marshal training or fire safety responsibilitiesPractical, hands-on technical skills and basic fault findingWhy Join KUSCOBe part of a trusted organisation supporting Kingston UniversityPlay a key role in maintaining safety across a large estateStructured, independent role with clear responsibilitiesFull training provided on systems and proceduresSupportive team environment within Estates & AssetsOpportunity to develop technical knowledge and experienceThis role is critical to ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation and protecting the University community.If you are dependable, detail-focused and take pride in doing work properly, we would love to hear from you.Apply now!No agencies please.TPBN1_UKTJ
