Group Financial Accountant

Headstar
Nottingham, ENG, GB Full Time

Job Description

Group Financial Accountant | £55,000 - £65,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus | Hybrid (1 day in office)

\n

\n

If you're coming to the end of your first few years in Top 10 or Big Four and wondering whether your first move into industry is worth it... this is one to look at.

\n

\n

This isn't a role where you'll spend every month churning out management accounts or getting swallowed up by month-end.

\n

\n

Instead, you'll join the Group Finance team of a major UK business, working directly with an impressive Financial Controller in a role that's heavily focused on technical accounting, statutory reporting, financial controls and improving processes across a large group structure.

\n

\n

The month-end close is just five days, and you'll only play a part in a couple of those. The rest of your time will be spent adding value, reviewing controls, improving reporting and getting involved in projects that genuinely develop your technical skillset.

\n

This would suit someone making their first move from practice (ACA qualified or approaching qualification), particularly from a Big Four or Top 10 background, although candidates with relevant industry experience will absolutely be considered too.

\n

\n

What they're looking for:

\n
    \n
  • Technically strong and enjoys solving accounting problems.
  • \n
  • Ambitious enough to want progression, but grounded enough to roll their sleeves up.
  • \n
  • Happy taking ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
  • \n
  • Someone who brings positive energy and healthy challenge to a team, without the ego.
  • \n
\n

\n

You'll be joining a business with significant scale, but a culture that doesn't feel overly corporate. The team works hard, but they're not interested in creating long-hours cultures for the sake of it. There's genuine flexibility, a collaborative environment and a clear route to take on more responsibility over the next couple of years.

\n

\n

The Role:

\n
    \n
  • Preparing statutory financial statements across a large UK group.
  • \n
  • Supporting external audits and year-end reporting.
  • \n
  • Strengthening financial controls and governance.
  • \n
  • Technical accounting research and implementation.
  • \n
  • Supporting finance improvement and transformation projects.
  • \n
  • Working closely with senior finance leadership on strategic initiatives.
  • \n
\n

\n

What You'll Need:

\n
    \n
  • ACA / ACCA qualified (or very close to qualification).
  • \n
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, ideally gained in audit.
  • \n
  • Experience preparing or reviewing statutory accounts.
  • \n
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders.
  • \n
  • A mindset that looks for ways to improve rather than simply maintain.
  • \n
\n

\n

Package:

\n
    \n
  • £55,000 - £65,000 basic salary
  • \n
  • £600 per month car allowance (£7,200 annually)
  • \n
  • 15% bonus (with scope to earn up to 30%)
  • \n
  • 6% matched pension
  • \n
  • Hybrid working - just one day per week in the office
  • \n
  • Clear progression into a broader finance leadership role
  • \n
\n

\n

If you're looking for a move where you'll actually continue developing technically, work with high-calibre people and put yourself in a strong position for future progression, then hit apply.
