Job Description
We are looking for a Functional Smallworld Consultant to support the delivery of complex geospatial solutions across major electrical utility projects in the UK and Europe.
\nDuties & Requirements

- Lead and support requirements gathering workshops with business users, technical teams and project stakeholders. \n
- Analyse operational, functional and technical requirements across electricity distribution and transmission projects. \n
- Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, user stories, process maps and solution specifications. \n
- Assess existing Smallworld processes, applications and data structures, identifying opportunities for improvement. \n
- Work closely with devs, architects, testers and project managers to ensure solutions meet agreed requirements. \n
- Act as the key functional link between client stakeholders and technical delivery teams. \n
- Support the design and configuration of Smallworld based solutions for electrical utility environments. \n
- Produce functional design documents, business requirements documents, use cases and acceptance criteria. \n
- Review proposed solutions to ensure they align with business processes, operational needs and industry best practice. \n
- Support data migration, data validation and data-quality activities where required. \n
- Assist with integrations between Smallworld and wider enterprise systems, including asset management, work management, outage management and network-modelling platforms. \n
- Support system upgrades, application enhancements and transformation programmes. \n
- Participate in solution demonstrations, design reviews and client presentations. \n
- Develop test scenarios and support system, integration and user acceptance testing. \n
- Coordinate with end users during UAT, helping to investigate issues and confirm that delivered functionality meets expectations. \n
- Support defect triage and work with technical teams to resolve functional issues. \n
- Produce user guides, process documentation and training materials. \n
- Deliver training and knowledge-transfer sessions to client teams and system users. \n
- Provide functional support during implementation, deployment and post-go-live phases. \n
- Build strong relationships with clients and provide trusted consultancy throughout the delivery lifecycle. \n
- Identify project risks, dependencies and gaps in requirements, escalating these appropriately. \n
- Contribute to project planning, estimation and workstream reporting. \n
- Support continuous improvement across Smallworld delivery methodologies, documentation and governance. \n
Essential Experience
\n- \n
- Strong experience operating in a functional consultancy, business analysis or solution delivery role. \n
- Experience delivering Smallworld solutions within the electrical utilities sector. \n
- Good understanding of electricity network data, asset info and operational processes. \n
- Proven experience gathering, analysing and documenting complex business requirements. \n
- Experience translating business requirements into functional specifications for technical delivery teams. \n
- Strong understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, including design, build, testing, deployment and support. \n
- Experience working directly with clients, business users and senior stakeholders. \n
- Experience supporting workshops, demonstrations, testing and user acceptance activities. \n
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear and structured functional deliverables. \n
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder-management skills. \n
- Ability to work independently within a remote and geographically distributed team. \n
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites across the UK and Northern Europe when required. \n
Desirable Experience
\n- \n
- Experience with electricity distribution or transmission network operators. \n
- Knowledge of Smallworld Electric Office or related Smallworld utility applications. \n
- Understanding of network connectivity, topology, electrical assets and utility data models. \n
- Exposure to Smallworld Magik development or the ability to work effectively with Magik developers. \n
- Experience with Smallworld system upgrades, migrations or transformation programmes. \n
- Knowledge of integrations with systems such as SAP, Maximo, Oracle, ADMS, OMS, EAM or work-management platforms. \n
- Experience with data migration, data cleansing and data-quality programmes. \n
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum or hybrid delivery methodologies. \n
- Experience working across international or multi-country utility programmes. \n
