Job Description

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established, market-leading manufacturer at its Smethwick facility, with occasional support provided to its Oldbury site.

With a history dating back to 1864, the business designs and manufactures metal systems and components for the construction, automotive, aerospace and audio industries. What we need from you:

\n
    \n
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Fitter within a heavy manufacturing environment, ideally within the steel industry
  • \n
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship and formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance
  • \n
  • Strong mechanical fitting, fault-finding and repair experience, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • \n
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery
  • \n
  • The ability to read engineering drawings, technical manuals and schematics
  • \n
  • Fabrication experience using drilling, cutting, welding and grinding equipment
  • \n
  • A good understanding of health and safety, with the ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team
  • \n
  • A reliable, proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • \n
\n

Desirable:

\n
    \n
  • Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical power presses
  • \n
  • Experience working with sheet metal processing machinery, including guillotines, press brakes and rolling mills
  • \n
  • Machining experience using centre lathes and milling machines
  • \n
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques
  • \n
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives
  • \n
  • FLT, MEWP trained or qualified
  • \n
\n

What the role involves:

\n
    \n
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment
  • \n
  • Responding to mechanical breakdowns and completing repairs efficiently to minimise production downtime
  • \n
  • Diagnosing faults, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions
  • \n
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational performance
  • \n
  • Assisting with the installation, commissioning, relocation and modification of new and existing machinery
  • \n
  • Undertaking engineering project work when required
  • \n
  • Carrying out repairs and maintenance to site facilities and infrastructure
  • \n
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and health and safety legislation
  • \n
  • Accurately completing maintenance records and documentation
  • \n
  • Working collaboratively with production and engineering teams to maximise equipment availability and performance
  • \n
  • Providing occasional engineering support at the companys Oldbury site
  • \n
\n

Salary: £35,000 to £37,500 per annum, depending on experience, plus a 20% shift allowance. (Expected earnings of £42,000 to £45,000 per annum, excluding overtime).

Working rotating weekly shifts:

\n
    \n
  • Morning shift: Monday to Thursday, 5.45am1.45pm and Friday, 5.45am12.55pm
  • \n
  • Afternoon shift: Monday to Thursday, 2pm10pm and Friday, 1.10pm8.20pm
  • \n
