Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon in Ohio - $908k base salary + $100k Sign on Bonus + bonuses

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY:

Our organization is on the lookout for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon to become part of our hospital-based practice. The preferred candidate will have completed a fellowship in sports medicine, showcasing proficiency in shoulder and knee arthroscopy, along with a desire to broaden services to encompass elbow and hip arthroscopy. This role presents a fantastic chance to enhance a thriving sports medicine program within a well-established orthopedic team, bolstered by a robust referral network.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

• Option #1: A base salary of $685,202* (50th percentile MGMA for recent graduates) with additional earnings based on experience, guaranteed for two years. This can transition to a wRVU production contract once targets are surpassed.
• Option #2: A base salary of $908,411* (75th percentile MGMA) guaranteed for the first year, followed by a shift to a wRVU production contract.

*5% reduction for candidates not yet board certified, with salary adjustments made upon certification.

The two-year contract also includes:

• Vacation: 29 days of paid time off (PTO), with an additional 5 days of PTO for achieving 75th percentile wRVUs.
• CME/Books & Journals: 5 days of PTO and up to $5,000 for continuing medical education.
• Deferred Compensation: Participation in a 457b plan, allowing deferral of up to $23,500 annually before taxes, without matching contributions.
• Retirement/Savings Plan: A 403b plan enabling deferral of up to $23,500 annually before taxes for those under 50, and $31,000 for those over 50, with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 2% of base salary.
• Relocation Assistance: Up to $10,000 provided for moving expenses.

• Malpractice Insurance: Coverage under a claims-made policy, offering $2,000,000 per claim and $6,000,000 aggregate.
• Health Insurance: A minimal premium paid by the physician, deducted from paychecks.
• Liquidated Damages: A non-compete clause of 70 miles for two years, or liquidated damages equivalent to one year’s salary.

• Bonus Opportunities: Attractive bonus incentives of up to 10% of salary.
• Medical School Loan Repayment: Up to $200,000 in repayment ($25,000 per year for each year of service commitment).
• Signing Bonus: 15% of base salary, capped at $100,000 (paid upon contract signing and forgiven over 2-4 years based on the bonus amount).
• Residency/Fellowship Stipend: Up to $25,000 paid in quarterly installments during the final two years of training.

PRACTICE DETAILS:

• Location: Our Orthopedic Associates practice.

• Office Hours:
• Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM
• No evening or weekend hours.

• Staffing: Comprising 6 providers, 8 clinical staff (CMA, LPN, Ortho Techs), 4 front office personnel, 2 surgery schedulers, radiology, and athletic training support.

• Call Schedule: 1:4 rotation.

• Patient Load: Managing 25-40 patients daily in the clinic, with variable office procedure volume including joint injections, aspirations, pin removals, and cast applications/removals. Performing 4-8 procedures daily in the hospital.

• Sports Medicine:
  Opportunity to lead and expand the sports medicine service line, performing advanced procedures such as:
  • Shoulder and knee arthroscopy
  • Complex ligament reconstruction and/or revision
  • Meniscal debridement and repair
  • Chondroplasty and cartilage restoration
  • Rotator cuff/labral repairs
  • Additional procedures like elbow and hip arthroscopy are encouraged.
• Trauma:
  Our organization handles a consistent volume of community trauma cases. While not a designated trauma center, we treat:
  • Long bone, periarticular, pediatric, periprosthetic, and hand/foot fractures
  • Proximal humerus and hip fractures are particularly common
  • Most open fractures and complex pelvic/acetabular trauma are referred out.
• Joint Replacement Surgery:
  Opportunity to perform primary and revision joint arthroplasty, including:
  • Knee, hip, and shoulder replacements
  • Collaboration with a fellowship-trained arthroplasty specialist
  • Elbow arthroplasty could enhance our service offerings.

PRACTICE PROFILE:

• Hand Surgery:
  Current services include:
  • Carpal and cubital tunnel release
  • Management of compression neuropathies
  • Soft tissue mass excisions and thumb CMC arthroplasty
  • Potential to expand into flexor tendon repair, Dupuytren's contracture management, and ligamentous wrist repair.
• Pediatrics:
  No inpatient pediatric cases. Outpatient pediatric sports procedures desired, including:
  • Knee and shoulder arthroscopy
  • Patellofemoral realignment
  • Management of chondral lesions
  • Fracture care and benign lesion excision.
• Foot & Ankle Surgery:
  Most procedures currently managed by in-house podiatrists, though orthopedic collaboration is welcomed, especially in:
  • Ankle arthroscopy
  • Ligament repair/reconstruction
  • Management of chondral lesions
• Spine:
  No spine surgeries performed in-house; cases are referred to regional neurosurgeons, supported by on-site pain management services.

• Equipment:
• Office: Cast saw & x-ray.
• Hospital: Equipped with computers in every room, CPMs, patient lifts, air mats for safe patient handling, Hana table, Wixon, Beach chair, peg board positioning devices in surgery, mini C-arm, and standard C-arm.
