Position Overview
This role involves providing essential support and services before, during, and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring the availability and proper setup of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room for each procedure, assisting the surgeon as permitted by professional and legal standards, and aiding in the cleaning of the operating room post-surgery while ensuring the correct handling of equipment and materials.
Qualifications
- Completion of a surgical technician program accredited by CAAHEP is mandatory.
- Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is required, or the ability to obtain CST certification within six months.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must strictly follow policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of a sterile environment.
- Understanding and application of basic patient care and safety principles.
- Ability to apply aseptic techniques to ensure optimal patient care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the names and functions of surgical instruments and equipment is required.
- Knowledge of various surgical procedures and the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs.
- Maintains certification through ongoing education and training activities.
