Inpatient Neurology Advanced Practice Provider Opportunity
Join our organization as an Inpatient Neurology Advanced Practice Provider at our flagship academic medical center. This position is integral to a growing neurology service within a collaborative, physician-led health system that serves communities throughout northern Pennsylvania and upstate New York.
Position OverviewThis role focuses on inpatient neurology at our facility in Sayre, PA. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will collaborate with neurohospitalists, general neurologists, and multidisciplinary teams to provide exceptional and timely neurologic care. The aim is to enhance inpatient consult coverage, support stroke and general neurology services, and improve access by optimizing the deployment of APPs.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Inpatient Neurology APP will engage in the evaluation, management, and coordination of care for adult neurology patients admitted to the hospital. Key duties include:
- Conducting daily rounds for inpatients
- Performing evaluations for new consultations
- Coordinating diagnostic tests and imaging
- Developing treatment and care plans
- Planning for patient discharge in collaboration with neurologists, hospitalists, nursing staff, therapy, and care management teams
The APP will carry out comprehensive neurologic assessments, maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record, educate patients and their families, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives. Procedural tasks may include lumbar punctures and other neurology-related procedures, depending on training, experience, and privileges at our facility.
Patient Population & Clinical ScopeThe role primarily involves caring for adult inpatients at a tertiary care hospital, addressing conditions such as:
- Acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
- Seizure disorders and epilepsy
- Encephalopathy and altered mental status
- Migraine and headache disorders
- Neuromuscular and general neurologic conditions
This position is primarily consult-based and does not include routine outpatient clinic sessions.
Schedule & Coverage ModelThe APP will work on an inpatient hospital schedule with weekday coverage and a shared rotation for weekends or holidays based on service requirements. There is no overnight call unless specified by the neurology coverage model.
Candidate Qualifications- Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care NP preferred) or Physician Assistant
- Eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure and national certification
- Experience in inpatient neurology, neurohospitalist, critical care, or hospital medicine is highly desirable
- New graduates with strong inpatient or neuro-focused training will be considered
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, and a collaborative approach to patient care
