Position: Full Time Maintenance

This is an AFSCME union position with a pay range of $31.59 to $34.58 per hour.

Nature of Work

The Maintenance person works under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director and Assistant Director and in coordination with the Foreman. The Maintenance position is responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of the recreation center. The position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining all building systems, completing necessary repairs, and implementing routine safety inspections including all indoor spaces; as well as, outdoor entryways, parking lots, and adjoining areas. At times the Maintenance person will assist the Foreman with parks and grounds maintenance and other tasks as needed. The position involves assisting with repairs and maintenance to other city-owned facilities and properties including the City Hall, pool, and other facilities/areas as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Works with the Director and Assistant Director to establish and maintain building safety protocols, cleaning and maintenance schedules; including but not limited to, boiler system/HVAC monitoring and minor repairs/maintenance, plumbing systems monitoring and minor repairs/maintenance, electrical systems monitoring and minor repairs/maintenance, routine floor and surface cleaning/sanitizing, bathroom cleaning/sanitizing, floor maintenance and repair including waxing and refinishing, painting and routine touch up, roof conditions monitoring and minor repairs/maintenance, and equipment/vehicle monitoring and maintenance.
  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the days programs and activities; including but not limited to, taking out trash, setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and other equipment, sweeping and mopping floors and vacuuming carpets, washing and sanitizing toilets and sinks, restocking disposables (e.g. soap), etc.
  • Works with Foreman, City Hall staff and Service Department staff to ensure snow removal & ice prevention services are complete as needed at the recreation center and other facilities as assigned such as City Hall.
Requirements of Work
  • Proven knowledge of boiler/HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, flooring, cleaning, and carpentry.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment, appliances, and tools such as floor stripping machines, buffing machines, power tools, carpet-cleaning machine, snow blowers, power lawn mowers, trimmer/edger, sanitizing equipment, drills, saws, carpentry, paint sprayer, and various other equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
  • Dependable and have a good work record as to punctuality and daily attendance.
  • Good physical condition and strength.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Disposition suited to the changing needs of the department.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a valid Ohio drivers license/CDL with no violations in the last three years.
Effort / Availability

Requires the ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis, prolonged walking or standing and frequent bending or stooping, kneeling and reaching on a daily basis. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual, electric, gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and machines, hand and power tools and equipment associated with technical grounds work, building maintenance, mechanical/carpentry repairs. Requires the ability to access facilities and areas that may only be accessible by climbing stairs or by climbing ladders to a height of 15 feet. Must be able to move throughout assigned areas. Some of the work is out-of-doors, year around. Maintenance person may also be assigned hours during the weekend or holiday periods. Employees in the job classification (job title) are designated as essential employees and must report to work as scheduled when offices are closed due to severe weather or another calamity.


Salary/Compensation: $31.59 - $34.58 per hour
