Position Overview:

This role involves taking x-rays of specific areas of the human body for diagnostic purposes and providing assistance within the imaging department. The focus is solely on plain films and fluoroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate procedures to patients to ensure they understand, providing relevant educational materials.
  • Transport patients to and from clinical areas, confirming their identity in accordance with established policies. Assist technologists in positioning patients for radiology exams.
  • Support technologists with filing, delivering, and retrieving patient reports and charts, ensuring films are matched to the correct folders, and delivering reports to patient units or physicians.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to prevent unnecessary exposure to patients.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the scope of practice and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and report any unusual activity. Suggest updates or improvements to protocols as necessary.
  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS, including correct lead markers and patient data/history.
  • Verify that equipment is functioning properly and report any issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment when necessary.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and film storage areas.
  • In emergency situations, may perform limited CT procedures when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety at all times.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of a Radiology Technology program.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
  • Regularly engage in oral communication, utilizing hearing and speech.
  • Frequently distinguish body sounds and detect alarms or machinery malfunctions through hearing.
  • Regularly lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequently assist in lifting and moving patients.
  • Regularly reach, grip, and use a keyboard for data entry.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally use vision to identify and differentiate colors.
  • Occasionally bend, stoop, squat, twist, and perform repetitive movements with feet/legs and hands/arms.
  • Rarely kneel or sit.

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiologic Technologist - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Or
  • Radiologic Technologist – Temporary Accreditation - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • And
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

For Missouri and Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • And
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

For Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
