\nShriners Children's St. Louis is recruiting three full-time, fellowship-trained Pediatric Anesthesiologists to join its dedicated perioperative team.
\nThese opportunities offer focused pediatric anesthesia practices, an all-physician care model, thoughtfully structured schedules, and the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team. Physicians will provide anesthesia care for children undergoing a broad range of procedures, including general orthopedics, spine, upper and lower extremity, sports medicine, and select plastic surgeries.
\nShriners Children's provides specialty care to children up to age 18, regardless of their families' ability to pay or insurance status. Its culture is grounded in compassion, integrity, accountability, innovation, evidence-based practice, education, and research.
\nTHE PRACTICE
\nApproximately 90% of each anesthesiologist's clinical time will be spent in the operating room, with the remaining time dedicated to preoperative assessments and occasional PACU coverage.
\nPractice highlights include:
\n- Two operating rooms staffed daily
\n- An all-physician anesthesia model with no CRNA supervision
\n- A rotating 1-in-4 home-call schedule
\n- No PICU responsibilities
\n- No routine resident or fellow teaching responsibilities
\n- Opportunities to perform regional anesthesia, ultrasound-guided blocks, and advanced airway management
\nThe practice primarily serves mid- and lower-acuity pediatric patients, including children with complex neuromuscular conditions. Anesthesiologists work within a collaborative care model supported by pediatric orthopedic surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and recreational therapy staff.
\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
\n- Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients
\n- Administer general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care in surgical and nonsurgical settings
\n- Monitor vital signs, anesthetic depth, and physiologic parameters throughout induction, maintenance, and emergence
\n- Use pediatric-appropriate airway and ventilation strategies, including advanced airway management techniques
\n- Recognize and respond to intraoperative complications and perioperative emergencies
\n- Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and other allied health professionals
\n- Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up, including regional anesthesia and sedation-recovery monitoring
\n- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
\n- Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, clinical protocol development, and peer review
\n- Contribute to medical education or scholarly activities as appropriate
\n- Meet established productivity, quality, and institutional performance standards
\nGENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
\nCandidates must have:
\n- An MD or DO from an accredited medical school
\n- Completion of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency
\n- Completion of a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship
\n- Board certification or eligibility in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology, with subspecialty certification or eligibility in pediatric anesthesiology
\n- Eligibility for active, unrestricted medical licensure in Missouri
\n- Eligibility for active DEA registration
\n- BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification
\n- Eligibility for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges
\n- Expertise in pediatric physiology, pharmacology, anesthetic techniques, advanced airway management, vascular access, and resuscitation
\n- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
\n- The ability to work effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive settings and within a multidisciplinary care environment
\nEXPERIENCE
\nOne to three years of post-fellowship or equivalent pediatric anesthesiology experience is preferred. Recent fellowship graduates will be considered based on their training and clinical exposure.
\nCOMPENSATION
\nThe annual compensation range for each position is $143,374.40-$215,051.20. Compensation is determined by relevant experience and departmental equity.
