Position Overview

The role involves conducting ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. You will apply cognitive sonographic skills to identify and document relevant anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images. This is a casual/PRN position with a flexible schedule based on your availability and the needs of the department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Mastering the operation of ultrasound equipment and embracing new technologies.
  • Performing a variety of ultrasound examinations.
  • Building and maintaining ethical relationships and rapport with patients and staff.
  • Upholding high medical ethics and demonstrating self-motivation to enhance knowledge in sonography.
  • Exhibiting empathy, compassion, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Understanding cross-sectional anatomy and maintaining professionalism, even under stress.
  • Assisting with accreditation requirements and processes as needed.
  • Coordinating with physicians and healthcare team members, including support during invasive procedures when necessary.
  • Supervising and training students and medical sonographers as required.
  • Reporting equipment service requests when necessary.
  • In some locations, responsibilities may extend to include echocardiography.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Imaging program, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma, or at least one year of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Registration in at least one of the following areas of sonography is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible.
  • Registry is preferred within two years of hiring.
  • If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within six weeks of employment, with re-certification as needed.
  • For those providing outreach mobile services, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required, which may involve passenger flights and occasional overnight stays at assigned locations.
