Department Overview

We offer growth opportunities, including NICU Transport and ECMO. If you begin in the Graduate Respiratory Therapist position, you must achieve your RRT within six months of employment.

Position Summary

The role of a respiratory therapist encompasses the evaluation, therapeutic intervention, and education for patients experiencing cardiopulmonary disorders, sleep disorders, or related complications. Responsibilities include:

• Assessing patients to prevent, identify, monitor, and manage diseases and complications.
• Delivering therapeutic interventions that positively influence cardiopulmonary health and overall well-being, in line with established goals and interdisciplinary care plans.
• Providing education to encourage preventive care, self-management, and improved cardiopulmonary health and quality of life.
• Conducting regular assessments of patients and their equipment to optimize therapy.
• Collecting and analyzing blood and other specimens to evaluate levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
• Measuring lung capacity to identify any impairments and offering diagnostic results and treatment recommendations based on patient analysis.

Qualifications

• A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program is mandatory; at least an associate degree or equivalent as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Comprehensive knowledge of all procedures, indications, contraindications, and risks associated with respiratory care, along with familiarity with departmental equipment.
• Proficiency in using computers for patient documentation and data collection to ensure quality care.
• Completion of orientations, competency validations, and other required training as mandated by the department and hospital.
• Current Respiratory Therapy licensure in the state(s) of practice and/or multi-state licensure privileges as necessary for the position.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials from the NBRC, maintaining active status as per credentialing requirements.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential. Additional site-specific specialty certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained.
