Position SummaryThe role involves planning, developing, and delivering dietary interventions, medical nutrition therapy, and preventive counseling to individuals and groups across various settings, including primary and specialty care, acute care, skilled nursing, outpatient, and community environments. Responsibilities include:
- Providing medical nutrition therapy services and monitoring nutritional care for clients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics.
- Assessing nutritional status and creating individualized care plans based on provider orders.
- Implementing nutrition therapy, which may include verbal orders, diet modifications, nutrition support, and oral nutrition supplements.
- Educating and counseling clients on disease management and nutrition risk.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of treatments using evidence-based practices.
- Leading the healthcare team in implementing nutrition therapies and protocols.
- Staying updated on new trends and techniques to enhance care plans and educational materials.
- Maintaining high standards for infection control and safety.
- Participating in clinical performance improvement initiatives and research.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program. *(Note: As of January 1, 2024, a master’s degree will be required to sit for the registration exam.)
- Clinical nutrition experience through an approved coordinated undergraduate program or completion of a postgraduate internship is necessary.
- Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) license in the relevant state(s).
- Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
- For certain states, a temporary/limited permit nutritionist license may be accepted for those awaiting their CDR exam, allowing two attempts within three months of hire.
