\nAbout the Opportunity
\nA well-established, 100% employee-owned manufacturers' representative in the Chicago market is adding a Sales Consultant to its HVAC and mechanical solutions team. The company partners with industry-leading manufacturers across HVAC equipment, indoor air quality, and noise control — delivering technical solutions to engineers, mechanical contractors, and building owners. This is a high-autonomy territory role with a direct path to strong earnings and meaningful long-term ownership through an active ESOP.
\nWhat You'll Do

- Own and execute a documented territory sales plan targeting key market segments including commercial construction, mechanical contracting, and specification-driven project work \n
- Prospect new business opportunities, build and maintain long-term relationships with engineers, contractors, and key account decision-makers \n
- Read and interpret architectural and mechanical drawings, specifications, and project bid documents to develop accurate, competitive proposals \n
- Coordinate with manufacturer partners on scopes, pricing, and technical applications to compile and submit bids to contractors \n
- Apply a consultative, process-driven sales methodology (Sandler) to identify customer needs, present value-driven solutions, and close business \n
- Manage the full bid-to-close cycle including quote follow-up, objection handling, negotiation, and purchase order verification \n
- Support accurate job turnover to inside sales and project management, including sales order entry, electronic job file setup, and submittal coordination \n
- Maintain current knowledge of represented product lines, technical applications, and competitive landscape within target markets \n
- Track pipeline activity, sales efforts, and forecasts using CRM tools; participate in industry events and associations to build market presence \n
- Travel within the territory approximately 15–20% of the time \n
What You'll Need

- Minimum 3 years of sales, business development, or technical sales experience in HVAC, mechanical equipment, building systems, or a related construction industry vertical \n
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents \n
- Demonstrated experience in consultative or process-driven selling with a track record of prospecting, managing accounts, and closing business \n
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical solutions, develop proposals, and negotiate effectively \n
- Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and industry prospecting tools (e.g., Builders Exchange, Insight) preferred \n
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered \n
- High school diploma or equivalent required \n
- Sandler Sales training or experience with a structured sales methodology is a plus \n
- Familiarity with HVAC/mechanical product applications and manufacturers' representative model preferred \n
