Department Overview

This role focuses on Bariatrics and requires the ability to assist with adult tube feeding needs. While a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential is preferred, it is not mandatory.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering dietary interventions, medical nutrition therapy, and preventive counseling to individuals and groups across various settings, including primary and specialty care, acute care, skilled nursing, outpatient, and community environments. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing medical nutrition therapy services and monitoring the nutritional care of clients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.
• Assessing nutritional status through comprehensive evaluations and creating individualized care plans.
• Implementing nutrition therapy based on provider orders, which may include verbal instructions, diet modifications, and oral nutrition supplements.
• Educating and counseling patients on managing diseases and nutrition-related risks.
• Evaluating the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy interventions and optimizing self-management education for clients with chronic conditions.
• Recognizing and addressing nutritional needs while considering cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs.
• Leading the healthcare team in executing nutrition care protocols and educating on dietary guidelines based on medical conditions.
• Incorporating new trends and techniques into care plans and updating educational materials.
• Ensuring quality control and maintaining high standards for infection control.
• Being aware of insurance coverage and reimbursement issues, and participating in clinical performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program. Note: After January 1, 2024, a master’s degree will be required for those taking the registration exam to become a dietitian.
• Clinical nutrition experience through an approved coordinated undergraduate program or successful completion of a postgraduate internship is essential.
• Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) license in the relevant state(s).
• Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
• For certain states, proof of a temporary or limited permit nutritionist license will be accepted for individuals awaiting their CDR exam, allowing two attempts within three months of hire.
