Job SummaryThe role involves producing high-quality images, including advanced special procedures, by operating specialized equipment to ensure optimal clarity for physician diagnosis while minimizing patient discomfort and radiation exposure. A thorough understanding of interventional equipment, diagnostic radiographic principles, film/imaging processing, quality control, and radiation safety is essential. The position also requires minimizing recovery risks for patients and implementing life support measures when necessary.
Adherence to established Safety and Infection Control Policies is crucial. The candidate should develop an understanding of patients' physical and emotional conditions while maintaining sensitivity and confidentiality. The role involves working effectively with individuals of all ages.
Key knowledge areas include anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology, along with familiarity with operative terms and pharmacology. Understanding billing and coding for procedures is also necessary. The ability to adapt to changes and perform independently with professional judgment in specialized procedures is required.
Flexibility in scheduling and availability for after-hours calls is essential. The candidate will be responsible for scheduling and conducting diagnostic and interventional procedures in designated units and will also participate in the educational processes of Radiologic Technology students.
Qualifications- Completion of formal radiologic technology training from an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited institution is mandatory.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience as a staff radiologic technologist.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
- If working in North Dakota, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is necessary for those performing medical imaging, interventional radiology, or radiation therapy procedures.
- In South Dakota, employees in interventional radiology are encouraged to obtain a Vascular Interventional Technology (VI) certification within 24 months of hire.
- For those working in the Cardiac Cath Lab, obtaining a Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CI) certification within 24 months of hire is encouraged.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within six weeks of employment, with re-certification as needed.
