Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer (Water)Working LocationHemel HempsteadPermanentAbout the RoleIf you are a mechanical engineer ready to step into a more senior position, this is an opportunity to take ownership of design delivery while supporting wider project and team development.The role sits within an engineering team working across long-term water programmes, playing a key part in delivering high-quality mechanical design across a range of projects.Why This Role Stands OutStep into a senior role with real design ownershipWork across clean and wastewater projectsOpportunity to support and guide junior team membersExposure to full project lifecycle and supplier engagementStrong pipeline of AMP work securedKey ResponsibilitiesDelivering mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirementsProducing calculations, drawings, and technical documentationLeading coordination with CAD technicians and supporting their developmentManaging interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)Preparing scopes and reviewing third-party design outputsEngaging with suppliers, reviewing tenders, and supporting equipment selectionProducing reports, specifications, and design investigationsEnsuring compliance with relevant standards and engineering practicesManaging design changes and ensuring accurate documentationSupporting estimation and planning of design activitiesAttending and presenting at technical and client meetingsRequirementsExperience in mechanical design within the UK water sectorExposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculationsKnowledge of programmes such as UMON or similar upgrade schemesUnderstanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practicesChartered Engineer status, or working towards chartershipStrong technical, communication, and problem-solving skillsExperience supporting or mentoring junior engineers and techniciansDegree, HND, or equivalent experienceTPBN1_UKTJ
