Health and Safety Advisor Energy from Waste

Are you an experienced Health and Safety Advisor with a background in energy from waste, biomass, power generation, utilities, process engineering or heavy industry ?We are recruiting for a proactive and practical Health and Safety Advisor to join an established UK energy business at its operational facility in Tyseley, Birmingham.This is a highly visible, site-based position where you will work closely with the Operations Director, Plant Management Team and Group Head of Health and Safety.You will take ownership of day-to-day health and safety activity, promote behavioural safety and help embed a proactive culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the site.The role includes incident investigation, contractor management, audits, inspections, risk management, ISO 45001 and extensive involvement during planned plant outages.The Health and Safety Advisor role As part of the site management team, you will become the principal source of day-to-day health and safety advice and support.You will provide practical guidance to employees, managers and contractors while ensuring plant operations comply with current UK legislation, Group policies and site procedures.Your responsibilities will include:Supporting the Operations Director with legislative, Group and site health and safety requirementsActing as the main site contact for health and safety advice, compliance and behavioural safetyPromoting a positive and continuously improving health and safety cultureImplementing, developing and reviewing site health and safety policies and proceduresSupporting the implementation and ongoing management of ISO 45001Leading and supporting internal health and safety audits and workplace inspectionsMonitoring site health and safety performance and identifying areas for improvementProducing weekly health and safety reports for senior site and Group managementChairing the site Health and Safety CommitteeRepresenting the site at Group health and safety forumsLeading and supporting incident and near-miss investigationsCompleting root-cause analysis and ensuring lessons learned are communicatedMonitoring corrective and preventative actions through to completionReviewing contractor health and safety competenceMonitoring contractor compliance with RAMS, permits and site proceduresDelivering and overseeing site health and safety inductionsManaging and developing incident-management and emergency-response systemsSupporting daily operational and outage-planning meetingsLiaising with clients, contractors, regulators and external bodiesProviding practical guidance on safe systems of work and operational riskPlanned outage responsibilities During planned plant outages, you will play a central role within the outage-management team.This will include:Developing and obtaining approval for the outage health and safety planSupporting CDM arrangements and complianceAuditing permits, risk assessments and method statementsConducting inspections, investigations and safety surveillanceMonitoring contractor compliance throughout the outageAttending outage meetings and advising operational teamsAgreeing arrangements for out-of-hours health and safety supportProducing detailed health and safety summaries for outage reportsSkills and experience required To be considered for this Health and Safety Advisor position, you should have:A minimum NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and SafetyPrevious health and safety experience within energy from waste, biomass, power generation, utilities, process manufacturing or heavy industryExperience working within a live operational, engineering or industrial environmentStrong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and recognised best practiceKnowledge of ISO management systems, ideally including ISO 45001Experience conducting workplace audits, inspections and risk assessmentsPractical incident-investigation and root-cause-analysis experienceExperience managing contractor health and safety complianceThe confidence to challenge unsafe practices constructivelyThe ability to influence employees, managers and contractors at all levelsStrong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing prioritiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsGood IT and reporting skillsMembership of an appropriate professional health and safety bodyFlexibility to travel occasionally to other Group sitesAn auditor qualification, formal incident-investigation training or previous experience acting as a senior or lead investigator would be advantageous.Why apply?
