Job Description
Three Bridges Recruitment is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a purpose-led organisation in Edinburgh. This is a strong development opportunity for someone who has built a foundation in finance & now wants broader exposure to month-end, financial control & technical accounting.
\nThis isn’t a purely transactional role. You’ll prepare journals & balance sheet reconciliations, investigate differences between systems, support statutory accounts & audit, & gradually take ownership of more complex areas as your knowledge develops.
\nThe finance team is going through a period of positive development & change. You’ll work closely with the Finance Manager in a collaborative environment where people are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and improve how things are done.

Job
\nAs Assistant Accountant, you’ll:
\n- \n
- Complete allocated monthly accounting processes \n
- Prepare & post month-end journals, including accruals & prepayments, \n
- Produce accurate and fully supported balance sheet reconciliations \n
- Reconcile information held in operational systems to the finance system \n
- Investigate discrepancies and work with colleagues to resolve them promptly \n
- Support the delivery of an accurate trial balance and timely financial reporting \n
- Help review and improve financial processes, controls and data quality \n
- Support the Finance Manager with VAT and Gift Aid accounting and compliance \n
- Assist with technical accounting matters as they arise \n
- Take ownership of allocated statutory accounts working papers and supporting schedules \n
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts under FRS 102 and the Charity SORP \n
- Respond to external audit requests and provide supporting documentation \n
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organisation \n
- Contribute to wider finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives \n
You
\nAs Assistant Accountant, you’ll bring:
\n- \n
- Experience working within a finance or accounting environment \n
- Experience that goes beyond purely transactional processing e.g journals, accruals, prepayments & balance sheet reconciliations \n
- Some experience supporting month-end or the preparation of management accounts \n
- Confidence working accurately with financial information and meeting deadlines \n
- Good Excel skills and experience using finance systems \n
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills \n
- The initiative to investigate issues and attempt to find a solution before escalating them \n
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues \n
- The ambition to broaden your experience and progress within finance \n
