Job Description
Step into a key support role at an elementary school serving students in grades K4-5th as a Special Education Teacher in an extended resource/self-contained setting. This contract opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with two fellow special education teachers—one focused on inclusion/resource roles and the other specializing in K5 transition. You’ll work with a classroom of 8-12 students, supported by a dedicated assistant, providing both full-day instruction and targeted ELA or math support, depending on student needs.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience working with elementary-aged children in a special education classroom, preferably self-contained or resource settings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with team members, assistants, and general education staff
- Passion for supporting diverse learners and developing individualized educational approaches
- Ability to adapt lessons for a variety of learning needs and levels
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and track student progress
- Teach and supervise students in a self-contained classroom environment
- Offer supplementary instruction in ELA and/or math for select students
- Manage classroom routines and foster a structured, inclusive, and engaging environment
- Collaborate with related service providers, families, and other educators
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
