Position Overview

This role involves providing expert nursing care within the surgical environment for patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute scrub duties, which include selecting and managing instruments and supplies utilized during procedures.
  • Perform circulating responsibilities, such as monitoring, documenting, and communicating the patient's condition while overseeing their nursing care before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and positioning of the patient.
  • Prepare operating rooms along with surgical instruments and equipment for use.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in nursing to ensure care is tailored to the patient's age and clinical needs as outlined in the department’s Scope of Service.
  • As a nurse, uphold the professional nursing standards established in the practice model, utilizing the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to address the evolving health and nursing needs of patients.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent education for licensing.
Experience
  • No prior experience is necessary.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly use speech for effective oral communication.
  • Constantly stand and walk.
  • Frequently lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Engage in frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry.
  • Utilize vision and depth perception for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as to identify and differentiate colors.
  • Regularly use smell to detect and recognize odors.
  • Frequently use hearing to receive verbal communication and identify body sounds or alarms.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assist in moving patients.
  • Occasionally perform bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
  • Occasionally drive.
  • Rarely crawl or run.

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN)

For Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
