Job Description
Embark on an impactful contract opportunity making a difference in the lives of students as a Special Education Learning Specialist. Multiple full-time roles are available supporting elementary learners across friendly, collaborative environments. Assignments are on site—each at a single school for the school year, with individualized caseloads matched to your expertise and background.
Opportunities include:
- Serving as a Learning Specialist in mild/moderate needs classrooms
- Leading teams in Affective Needs settings, supporting students with more significant emotional and behavioral challenges
- Working in Structured Learning Services, teaching students with severe cognitive/behavioral disabilities, alongside service providers in a small, self-contained classroom
Key skills and experience:
- Valid Colorado Department of Education Special Education Generalist (5-21) license (required)
- Proven experience in developing FBAs/BIPs (strongly preferred for behavioral and structured roles)
- Familiarity with and application of CPI, de-escalation, ABA principles, or comparable behavioral strategies
- Autism and cognitive disabilities experience (required for select roles)
- Experience directing paraprofessional teams (for affective/structured roles)
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—speech, OT, psych services
- Effective classroom management and implementation of individualized educational plans
- Strong communication skills, teamwork mindset, and flexible, compassionate approach
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction matched to student needs
- Manage and document IEP processes
- Collaborate regularly with families, school personnel, and support staff
- Lead a small team of paraprofessionals (for designated classrooms)
- Employ best practices in behavior management and data-driven instruction
- Participate fully in all staff and planning meetings
