Position Overview:

Our newly established facility, opened in 2014, features a Med-Surg Department with 13 beds, linked to a 3-bed ICU. We maintain a patient-to-nurse ratio of 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night, with Certified Nursing Assistants available on all shifts. To ensure safety, we provide 24/7 security for both patients and staff. Nurses typically work 12-hour shifts and are scheduled every third weekend. Being a smaller facility allows us to foster meaningful relationships with our patients.

Many nurses find the Med-Surg Department at our facility to be an excellent starting point for their careers, often falling in love with the environment and choosing to stay long-term. Our team is frequently described as a second family, making this a truly rewarding workplace.

Work Schedule:

  • Week 1: Tuesday
  • Week 2: Thursday, Saturday
  • Week 3: Thursday
  • Week 4: Tuesday, Thursday
  • Week 5: Saturday
  • Week 6: Wednesday, Thursday

Position Summary:

This role involves delivering direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply medical-surgical nursing standards to enhance patient care and quality of life through systematic evaluation of nursing practices.
  • Build effective relationships and advocate for patients and their families to create personalized care plans.
  • Utilize the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, and evaluate results.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health issues.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how illnesses affect patients' physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure aspects.
  • Exhibit leadership by collaborating with patients, families, and the inter-professional team to assess needs, set goals, and evaluate care outcomes.
  • Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure culturally sensitive and ethical care.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion, maintenance, and comfort measures.
  • Promote a healthy work environment by mentoring nursing colleagues and students.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices into medical-surgical nursing to meet age-specific and clinical needs.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
  • May conduct point-of-care testing as per established policies.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensing.

Experience:

  • No prior experience necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly communicate verbally to convey information.
  • Frequent standing and walking required.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
  • Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
  • Frequent visual acuity for near and far distances, including color differentiation.
  • Regularly use smell to identify odors.
  • Frequently use hearing to receive verbal communication and detect alarms.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs and moving patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
  • Rarely required to crawl or run.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

For Illinois:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN)

For Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
