Assistant, Lab I - Histology

Job Overview: Pay Range: $19.00hr - $22.00hr Requirement/Must Have: High School Diploma is REQUIRED. Some college science courses are preferred. One (1) year of previous histopathology or other laboratory experience and/or training preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour. Required to use personal protective equipment. Responsibilities: Perform routine activities involved in the preparation of histopathology slides under general supervision and according to policies and procedures. Receive/collect, label and prepare tissue specimens for gross dissection. Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting. Monitor inventory, requisition supplies prior to depletion; stock and maintain laboratory supplies. Clean, sterilize, organize and maintain work area, glassware and laboratory equipment (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, and supply cabinets, as needed). Perform coverslipping of stained slides both manually and automated. Responsible for all assigned clerical duties. Comply with all health, quality and safety policies, procedures and practices. Receive and accession specimens, scan and distribute slides to physicians, file blocks, dump waste, pull and match slides. Nice to Have: Some college science courses. Previous histopathology or laboratory experience. Skills: Ability to follow a series of steps without confusion or errors on an ongoing basis and retain information once learned. Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently. Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders. Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner. Manual dexterity for using laboratory instruments and apparatuses. Qualification And Education: High School Diploma. Physical Requirements(Due to nature of job, The candidate must have): Ability to lift and carry objects 1 to 10 pounds frequently. Ability to lift and carry objects 11 to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to lift and carry objects 36 to 50 pounds seldom. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time. Ability to walk and stand frequently.
