Job Opportunity: Physician - Hematology/Oncology

Practice Locations:

  • St. Peters Health Partners Albany - 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208
  • Troy - 2215 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Closed on weekends.

Practice Overview

Our organization is affiliated with a leading cancer center in Buffalo, NY, and will employ physicians within the hematology/oncology program. Physicians typically see between 15 to 18 patients daily, with the option to increase this volume if desired. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) manage around 10 to 12 patients each day. During hospital rounds, physicians do not have patient responsibilities.

Average Daily Patient Volume:

  • Hospital Census: 20-30 patients
  • Albany Clinic: 50-80 patients
  • Troy Clinic: 40 patients

Infusion visit volumes average 30-38 patients per day in Albany and 15-20 in Troy. Both nurses and APPs are authorized to administer antineoplastic agents, while MDs and APPs handle intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity procedures. Bone marrow and fine needle aspiration biopsies are primarily conducted by Interventional Radiology, and nurses manage vascular access devices. Intrapleural therapies are provided in inpatient settings. Our organization is actively pursuing clinical trials in collaboration with the cancer center.

The oncology service line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology, with a transition towards a 1:1 MD to APP model.

Patient Demographics

We serve a diverse patient population across various socio-economic backgrounds, with ages ranging from geriatric to young adult (no pediatrics). The practice sees high volumes of pancreatic, breast, colon, and urological cases, while melanoma and renal cases are less frequent. Our physicians have access to a wide range of specialties within the healthcare system, including Thoracic, GI, Head & Neck, and Genitourinary. The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with our oncology service line. Please note that we do not manage acute leukemias or have a Bone Marrow Transplant/Transitional Care program at this time.

Support Staff

Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022. Each physician is assigned a primary nurse responsible for triage calls and paperwork. Dedicated nurses are available in both the Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management. We also have four full-time pharmacists on staff who are approachable and ready to assist with any questions regarding chemotherapy.

Call Responsibilities

The call schedule is set at 1:5 for inpatient consults, with a future goal of 1:7. Hospitalists handle patient admissions, while dedicated inpatient APPs manage ongoing care. After-hours call occurs Monday through Thursday every five weeks, with weekend responsibilities from Friday to Sunday on the same rotation.

Electronic Medical Records: EPIC

Tumor Boards: We host tumor boards for GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, and General oncology, with virtual access to specialized tumor boards from the cancer center.
