Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a role where you can take full ownership of an in-house payroll function?

\n

An established organisation is recruiting a Senior Payroll Officer to manage its monthly payroll for around 500 employees. This is a standalone, senior position offering autonomy, responsibility and the opportunity to improve payroll processes and controls.

The role begins as a three-month temporary contract, with the intention of becoming permanent. Hybrid working is available.

Key Responsibilities\n

    Deliver the monthly UK payroll from start to finish

  • \n
  • \n

    Process starters, leavers, pay changes, deductions and statutory payments

  • \n
  • \n

    Validate HR information and investigate discrepancies

  • \n
  • \n

    Produce payslips, reports and third-party payment schedules

  • \n
  • \n

    Complete PAYE, National Insurance and HMRC submissions

  • \n
  • \n

    Manage year-end payroll activities and statutory returns

  • \n
  • \n

    Administer pension auto-enrolment, re-enrolment and contributions

  • \n
  • \n

    Complete monthly reconciliations and maintain payroll controls

  • \n
  • \n

    Handle employee and manager queries confidentially

  • \n
  • \n

    Maintain accurate, secure and audit-ready records

  • \n
  • \n

    Support internal and external audits

  • \n
  • \n

    Recommend and implement process and reporting improvements

  • \n
Skills and Experience\n

You will need substantial end-to-end UK payroll experience, combined with strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and pension legislation. You should be comfortable working independently, managing strict deadlines and resolving payroll issues proactively.

Strong Excel and payroll software skills are required. CIPP membership or a relevant payroll qualification is desirable but not essential.
