Job Description

We are partnering with a global investment bank in their search for a Financial Crime Compliance Officer. This is a 12-month temporary role based in London, offering a hybrid working model (50% in the office, 50% at home) and a day rate of up to £450 per day via Umbrella for the right candidate.

The Role

Sitting within the Financial Crime Advisory (FCA) team, you will play a key part in advising on and mitigating financial crime and reputational risks across the bank's client portfolio. You will act as a primary point of contact for first-, second-, and third-line queries relating to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Know Your Customer (KYC), and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Crime Advisory: Provide clear, comprehensive written advice on the financial crime risks of clients and transactions to the 1LOD during onboardings, periodic reviews, and escalations.
  • \n
  • Risk Assessments & Reviews: Conduct and peer-review financial crime risk assessments on client files and transaction escalations (e.g., PEPs, Sanctions, adverse news) in line with internal KYC deadlines.
  • \n
  • Framework & Governance: Maintain local FCA procedures, align them with relevant financial crime laws and regulations, and represent the team during internal governance forums.
  • \n
  • Controls & Horizon Scanning: Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure continuous compliance, while executing and strengthening internal controls.

  • Audit & Reporting: Respond to internal audit requests, collate management information (MI), and deliver trend analysis to senior management.

This role could be right for you if you have:

  • Experience: Strong 2LOD financial crime compliance experience within a global financial institution or consultancy, with hands-on experience conducting open-source investigations.
  • \n
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of UK financial crime legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices, specifically surrounding KYC and Sanctions.
  • \n
  • Systems Expertise: Working knowledge of industry screening tools such as Dow Jones (Factiva and RiskCenter).
  • \n
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written research and analytical abilities, strong time management skills to handle multiple reviews under time pressure, and a collaborative approach to engaging with 1LOD colleagues.
