Criminal Duty Solicitor – Telford

An established and well-respected law firm is seeking a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join its busy and growing Criminal Defence department. This opportunity is suitable for a Newly Qualified Solicitor upwards who holds the Duty Solicitor Accreditation.

You will work alongside experienced criminal defence practitioners, handling a varied caseload of criminal matters from police station representation through to Magistrates' and Crown Court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

\n
• Manage a caseload of criminal defence matters from instruction to conclusion
\n
• Provide representation at police stations, Magistrates' Courts and Crown Courts
\n
• Attend clients in custody and provide advice during interviews under caution
\n
• Prepare cases for trial, including reviewing evidence and drafting legal documents
\n
• Conduct advocacy where appropriate
\n
• Liaise with clients, counsel, courts, police, CPS and other relevant agencies
\n
• Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm procedures
\n
• Maintain accurate case records and billing information
\n

Candidate Requirements

\n
• Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (NQ+ PQE)
\n
• Duty Solicitor status preferred, although applications from Solicitors working towards accreditation will be considered
\n
• Solid understanding of criminal law and procedure
\n
• Experience representing clients at police stations and court hearings
\n
• Strong advocacy, communication and client care skills
\n
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently
\n
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
\n
• Full UK driving licence preferred
\n
