This is a part-time payroll role with real room to grow. The firm is bringing a large block of payroll work back in-house and has won a number of new clients, so the department is steadily expanding. You'll work closely with the payroll manager, with genuine scope to increase your hours if desired, as the team grows.

This is a well-established, independently owned firm of accountants with offices across the North West of England, offering accountancy, tax and commercial business advisory services. It has built its reputation on genuine, hands-on involvement in clients' affairs, and offers a broad enough range of specialist services.

Part-Time Payroll Administrator – Why This Role Exists\n

The firm's payroll function is in active growth mode. A significant number of payrolls previously handled offshore are being brought back in-house, and the team has just acquired a wave of new clients. This role has been created to support the payroll manager directly, cover annual leave and non-working days, and give the department the capacity it needs to keep growing.

Part-Time Payroll Administrator – Responsibilities\n

Payroll Processing

  • Processing payrolls of up to 80 payslips per run, covering new starters, leavers, sickness, statutory leave and timecard entries
  • \n
  • Carrying out national minimum wage checks and other routine payroll compliance checks
  • \n
  • Supporting the onboarding of new payrolls, including migration onto the firm's cloud payroll software
  • \n

Pensions & Compliance

    \n
  • Managing monthly pension uploads, including reconciling and authorising payments ahead of provider deadlines
  • \n
  • Working across several major pension providers and schemes, including differing taxability options
  • \n
  • Keeping payroll practice aligned with Pensions Regulator requirements and GDPR obligations
  • \n

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Handling day-to-day payroll queries from internal colleagues and external clients by phone, email and in person
  • \n
  • Working alongside client managers on queries and changes affecting client payrolls
  • \n
  • Providing day-off and holiday cover within the payroll team as needed
  • \n
  • At least 2 years' payroll experience
  • \n
  • Up to date knowledge of current PAYE, pension and GDPR legislation
  • \n
  • Familiarity with pension providers and the schemes they operate, including taxability options
  • \n
  • Desirable: working knowledge of HR/payroll-adjacent legislation such as holiday entitlement, enhanced pay and redundancy, and experience processing director payrolls
  • \n
  • Able to work Tuesdays as a fixed day, with flexibility on hours and additional days by agreement
