Part-Time Financial Controller

Location: Coventry (1 day a month)

\n

Hours: Part-time 30 hours per week

\n

Reporting to: Managing Director

\n

About the Role

\n

We are seeking a commercially minded, qualified Financial Controller to lead the finance function of a successful £10 million turnover business. This is a standalone leadership role reporting directly to the Managing Director, with responsibility for the entire finance function and management of two direct reports.

\n

The business operates primarily within the contract sector, delivering business services to commercial business and not for profit. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the senior leadership team, providing strategic financial insight while ensuring robust financial controls and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the finance function.
  • \n
  • Oversee, mentor and develop two direct reports.
  • \n
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts and board reporting.
  • \n
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • \n
  • Deliver financial analysis and commercial insight to support business decision-making.
  • \n
  • Manage cash flow, working capital and treasury activities.
  • \n
  • Ensure robust financial controls, governance and compliance across the business.
  • \n
  • Oversee statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external auditors.
  • \n
  • Manage VAT, corporation tax and all statutory reporting requirements.
  • \n
  • Ensure accurate payroll oversight and financial reconciliations.
  • \n
  • Monitor key financial and operational KPIs, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • \n
  • Support contract pricing, tender submissions and commercial negotiations where required.
  • \n
  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors and external advisors.
  • \n
  • Drive continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and reporting.

About You

\n

You will be an experienced finance professional who enjoys operating in a hands-on role while contributing strategically to business performance.

\n

You will have:

\n

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • \n
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader.
  • \n
  • Experience managing a finance team.
  • \n
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Excellent knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
  • \n
  • Excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills.
  • \n
  • A proactive, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
  • \n
