Job Description

We're looking for a Field Service Technician to test, troubleshoot, repair, commission, and maintain low- and medium-voltage electrical equipment and power distribution systems for customers in mission-critical industries. Day-to-day, this person will read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical specifications to diagnose and correct issues in the field — working on switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, generator controls, and related equipment.

This role requires someone comfortable working independently or as part of a team, traveling extensively between customer sites, and communicating technical findings clearly to both field service leadership and customers. The ideal candidate takes pride in hands-on troubleshooting work and doesn't mind a travel-heavy schedule with overnight stays.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, start up, and commission low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
\n
• Test and commission switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, generator controls, power meters, load banks, and related equipment.
\n
• Prepare and maintain detailed reports on testing, repairs, maintenance, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
\n
• Use equipment manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems.
\n
• Interpret electrical drawings, layouts, specifications, and one-line diagrams to diagnose power distribution issues.
\n
• Install, route, terminate, inspect, and troubleshoot control wiring.
\n
• Assist with testing and troubleshooting protective relays (SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens, and others).
\n
• Maintain budget estimates, progress reports, cost-tracking documentation, and project closeout records.
\n
• Communicate project status, technical findings, and recommended corrective actions to leadership and customers.
\n
• Follow all company, customer, and site-specific safety procedures.
\n

Required Experience/Skills

\n
• 3+ years of relevant electrical industry experience.
\n
• 3+ years of hands-on experience testing low- and medium-voltage electrical power equipment.
\n
• General knowledge of circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, current/potential transformers, load banks, and generators.
\n
• Proficiency with electrical testing equipment (voltmeters, meggers, ammeters).
\n
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-lines, and technical specs.
\n
• Basic understanding of protective relays and power system controls.
\n
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including explaining technical issues to customers.
\n
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, work overtime, and stay overnight at project locations.
\n
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe.
\n

Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
