Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; closed on weekends.

Practice Overview

Our organization is partnered with a leading cancer center in Buffalo, NY, and will employ physicians involved in our hematology/oncology program. Physicians typically manage 15-18 patients daily, with the option to see more if desired. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) generally see around 10-12 patients each day.

During hospital rounds, physicians do not have patient responsibilities. The average daily hospital census is between 20-30 patients. Both office schedules and call responsibilities are designed to be manageable and equitable.

Clinic Volumes:

• Albany Clinic: Approximately 5,080 patients/day; Infusion visits: 3,038/day
• Troy Clinic: About 40 patients/day; Infusion visits: 15-20/day

Nurses, APPs, and physicians are involved in administering antineoplastic agents, while MDs and APPs also handle intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity treatments. Bone marrow and fine needle aspiration biopsies are primarily performed by Interventional Radiology, and nurses manage vascular access devices (VADs). Intrapleural therapies are conducted in inpatient settings.

Our organization and the cancer center are actively pursuing clinical trials. The oncology service line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology, with a transition towards a 1:1 MD to APP model.

Patient Demographics

We serve a diverse patient population across various socio-economic backgrounds, with ages ranging from geriatric to young adult (no pediatrics). The practice sees high volumes of pancreatic, breast, colon, and urological cases, while melanoma and renal cases are less frequent. Physicians have access to a wide range of specialties within our system, including Thoracic, GI, Head & Neck, and GU. The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with our oncology service line.

Support Staff

Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022. Each physician is assigned a primary nurse responsible for triage calls and paperwork. Dedicated nurses are available in both the Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management.

We have four full-time pharmacists specializing in chemotherapy who are readily available for consultation.

Call Responsibilities

• Inpatient consult/call schedule: 1:5, with a future goal of 1:7
• After-hours call: Monday to Thursday every 5 weeks
• Weekend call: Friday to Sunday every 5 weeks

Electronic Medical Record System: EPIC

Tumor Boards: GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, General, with virtual access to specialized tumor boards from the cancer center.

Qualifications

• Board Certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or in progress
• Commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork

Recruitment Package

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes:

• Annual Salary: $550,000 - $600,000 for the first two years, transitioning to $650,000 for years three to five
• Salary range reflects the starting total compensation and excludes productivity bonuses, quality incentives, and other cash compensation
