Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established, market-leading manufacturer at its Smethwick facility, with occasional support provided to its Oldbury site.With a history dating back to 1864, the business designs and manufactures metal systems and components for the construction, automotive, aerospace and audio industries. This varied, hands-on role offers excellent long-term stability, ongoing training and opportunities for personal and professional development.What we need from you:A minimum of 5 years experience working as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Fitter within a heavy manufacturing environment, ideally within the steel industryA recognised engineering apprenticeship and formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical MaintenanceStrong mechanical fitting, fault-finding and repair experience, including hydraulic and pneumatic systemsExperience carrying out planned preventative maintenance on production machineryThe ability to read engineering drawings, technical manuals and schematicsFabrication experience using drilling, cutting, welding and grinding equipmentA good understanding of health and safety, with the ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance teamA reliable, proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detailDesirable:Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical power pressesExperience working with sheet metal processing machinery, including guillotines, press brakes and rolling millsMachining experience using centre lathes and milling machinesKnowledge of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniquesExperience contributing to continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiativesFLT, MEWP trained or qualifiedWhat the role involves:Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and plant equipmentResponding to mechanical breakdowns and completing repairs efficiently to minimise production downtimeDiagnosing faults, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actionsContributing to continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational performanceAssisting with the installation, commissioning, relocation and modification of new and existing machineryUndertaking engineering project work when requiredCarrying out repairs and maintenance to site facilities and infrastructureEnsuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and health and safety legislationAccurately completing maintenance records and documentationWorking collaboratively with production and engineering teams to maximise equipment availability and performanceProviding occasional engineering support at the companys Oldbury siteS alary: £35,000 to £37,500 per annum, depending on experience, plus a 20% shift allowance.
