Practice Location:

  • Albany - 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208
  • Troy - 2215 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180
  • Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; closed on weekends.
Package Highlights:
  • Year 1 & 2 Annual Salary: $550,000 - $600,000, plus a WRVU productivity model.

Practice Highlights:

Our organization is affiliated with a leading cancer center in Buffalo, NY. The physicians involved in the hematology/oncology program will be employed by RPCI Oncology, PC.

  • Physicians typically see 15-18 patients per day (with the option to see more if desired).
  • Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) see around 10-12 patients daily.
  • During hospital rounds, physicians do not have patient responsibilities.
  • Average Daily Hospital Census: 20-30 patients.
  • Office schedules and call loads are designed to be manageable and equitable.
  • Average Patient Volume at Albany Clinic: 50-80 patients/day; Average Daily Infusion Visits: 30-38 patients.
  • Average Patient Volume at Troy Clinic: 40 patients/day; Average Daily Infusion Visits: 15-20 patients.
  • Nurses, APPs, and MDs are involved in administering antineoplastic agents.
  • MDs and APPs perform intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity procedures.
  • Bone marrow and FNA biopsies are primarily conducted by Interventional Radiology.
  • Nurses manage VAD catheters.
  • Intrapleural therapies are provided in the inpatient setting.
  • We are actively pursuing clinical trials in collaboration with the cancer center.
  • The Oncology Service Line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology.
  • We are transitioning to a 1:1 MD:APP model within the Oncology Services Line.
Patient Demographics:
  • Patients come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Age range includes Geriatric to Young Adult (no pediatrics).
  • High patient volumes for pancreatic, breast, colon, and urology cancers.
  • Lower volumes for melanoma and renal cancers.
  • Physicians have access to various specialties within the organization (Thoracic, GI, H&N, and GU).
  • The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with the Oncology Service Line.
  • The Oncology Service Line does not manage acute leukemias.
  • Currently, there is no BMT/TCT program within the Oncology Service Line.

Dedicated APPs are available for both inpatient and outpatient services within the Oncology Services Line.

Support Staff:
  • SPHP Nursing achieved Magnet designation in 2022.
  • Each physician is assigned a Primary Nurse responsible for triage calls and paperwork.
  • Dedicated Nurses are available in both Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management.

We have 4 full-time pharmacists specializing in chemotherapy, readily available for questions and support.

Call Responsibilities:
  • Current call schedule is 1:5 for inpatient consults/calls.
  • The future goal is to achieve a 1:7 call schedule.
  • Consult Service: Hospitalists admit patients, and dedicated inpatient APPs manage care.
  • After-hours call responsibility: Monday - Thursday every 5 weeks.
  • Weekend call responsibility: Friday - Sunday every 5 weeks.
  • EMR System: EPIC.

Tumor Boards: GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, General.

Virtual access to specialized Tumor Boards at the cancer center is available.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or be in the process of obtaining it.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient-centered care and a desire to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Exhibits exceptional interpersonal skills alongside strong clinical abilities.
  • Shows enthusiasm and motivation to deliver the highest quality of care and outcomes.
