Project Controller - Financial Control

Role Overview

\n

The Project Controller is responsible for supporting the financial and operational control of projects throughout their lifecycle. Working closely with Project Managers, Finance teams, Engineers, and Subcontractors, the role ensures effective project governance, accurate financial forecasting, timely invoicing, and robust project control processes to maximise project profitability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control

  • Create, maintain, and update project cost forecasts, ensuring actual and forecast expenditure is accurately tracked against approved budgets.
  • \n
  • Maintain project turnover and revenue forecasts, providing accurate financial information to support business planning.
  • \n
  • Assist with the preparation, management, and monitoring of customer invoices.
  • \n
  • Monitor invoice payments and proactively identify overdue debt, escalating issues to Project Managers and relevant stakeholders for resolution.
  • \n
  • Support financial reporting and provide regular updates on project performance, profitability, and cost variances.
  • \n
  • Track and monitor projects valued above £20,000, identifying and reporting projects that are not achieving expected profit margins.

Project Controls & Governance

  • Review Project Lessons Learned Logs and extract key insights to maintain and update Lessons Learned Reports.
  • \n
  • Proactively manage project variation procedures, ensuring all variations are accurately recorded, submitted, approved, and processed within customer timescales.
  • \n
  • Establish and maintain project correspondence logs, documentation, and filing systems to ensure effective project record management.
  • \n
  • Implement and maintain appropriate control mechanisms for projects and sub-projects, ensuring compliance with company procedures and governance requirements.
  • \n
  • Operate within Head Office policies and procedures, ensuring project activities align with established business standards.
  • \n

Reporting & Administration

  • Assist in the preparation of project reports, management information, and performance summaries.
  • \n
  • Support the production of project board papers and governance reports for senior management review.
  • \n
  • Manage the monthly engineer timesheet process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
  • \n
  • Maintain accurate project control data and records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • \n

Stakeholder Management

  • Attend internal project meetings and subcontractor meetings to gather information required for project monitoring and reporting.
  • \n
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Finance teams, Customers, and Subcontractors to support project delivery and financial performance.
  • \n
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to project teams to ensure effective project execution.
  • \n

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across project control processes.
  • \n
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as required by the business.

Skills & Experience

\n
    \n
  • Experience in project controls, project administration, financial administration, or project coordination.
  • \n
  • Strong financial awareness with the ability to analyse project costs, revenues, and profitability.
  • \n
  • Experience managing forecasts, invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • \n
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • \n
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • \n
