The Opportunity\n

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders to support a specialist Eating Disorders Service in the East Midlands.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 schedule, providing structured and consistent work within a dedicated multidisciplinary team. It is ideally suited to experienced consultants with expertise in eating disorders psychiatry who are confident managing complex cases and delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care.

You will provide senior clinical leadership across the service, overseeing patient care, supporting multidisciplinary colleagues, and ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment for individuals experiencing a range of eating disorders.

What You'll Be Doing\n

\n
• Provide consultant-level leadership within a specialist Eating Disorders Service
\n
• Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with eating disorders
\n
• Take clinical responsibility for patients presenting with complex eating disorder conditions, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and atypical eating disorders
\n
• Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and care planning discussions
\n
• Work collaboratively with psychologists, dietitians, nursing staff, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals
\n
• Support nutritional rehabilitation plans and risk management strategies alongside the wider MDT
\n
• Assess and manage psychiatric and physical health risks associated with eating disorders
\n
• Provide expert clinical advice regarding treatment pathways, recovery planning, and relapse prevention
\n
• Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunal hearings where required
\n
• Supervise junior doctors and contribute to medical education and professional development
\n
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
\n
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
\n
• Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, clinical care, and professional practice
\n

What We're Looking For\n

\n
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
\n
• CCT in General Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent qualification (CESR)
\n
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility for inclusion
\n
• Section 12 Approval
\n
• Approved Clinician Status (highly desirable)
\n
• Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within Eating Disorders Psychiatry
\n
• Experience managing complex eating disorder presentations in inpatient and/or community settings
\n
• Strong understanding of physical health monitoring and risk management in patients with eating disorders
\n
• Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
\n
• Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunal reports, and statutory processes
\n
• Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
\n
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
\n
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
